to be honest with you, I have a Dodge ram, 98, with the 5.9, I just need some information, about the cold air induction, I always hear that you can build one yourself, and it isn't difficult, but I was just wondering what the downsides to cold air induction are...
I was also wondering if anyone knew of a ram site like this one...
what are the most cost effective ways to add more power to the 5.9...
and last but not least, what do you think of the transmissions with the 5.9, mine has overdrive and it seems a little iffy??

Try socaldakota.com or a fav of this is speedtweeks.com I have seen a 97 ram with 2002 20inch ram wheels looked cool, I think the 5.9 is the same in the ram durango and the dakota.

I love speedtweeks...but I saw something on there that disturbed me a little bit...
about the whole governer issue...ya know the place where you stop going faster...well...it said that if you turn the key forward while you are are at the speedlimit then it will let you pass the governer...but I haven't found anyone brave enough to try it...and I don't want to ruin my starter the first month I have it ya know

it works.... but your speedo doesnt. The starter wont come on if you are in gear/motion

the starter sould not work if it is in gear, most trucks shut off at 115. That is because of the tires, there not made to go that fast unless they are rated for high speed. I have done the key thing. If you are racing most of the time you will have won or lost by then anywhay

ok...so your speedometer will still say that you are at 100...but it does actually work...
...so do you have to be at the place where you stop accellerating inorder for it to work...and do you have keep holding it down to go faster...
so curious about this...do you have the 5.9... how fast will it go ...because at 100 in od I am only wrapping about 2500 rpms

if you turn the key to start you have to hold it I would put it in drive and try it at an idel first. If it makes a naty noise don't ever do it again.The speedometer will not work but the tack will. That is what is used to get the estamated speed. if the tack reads 1800 at 70 mph and 2200 at 88 mph than 2700 should be about 106 that is just and example. I have a v6 that will do about 140 It has a few goodies

You lost me on the tire thing...what is the risk again...I have an 86 camaro...and I could take it to about 140...and nothing ever happened...I don't want to drive that fast all the time...I just kind of want to be able to say...that I can go that fast...I like to have speed...use it when I need to...not all the time...it puts too much wear and tear on the automobile...
but tell me about the tire thing???

tires are made for differnt speeds and weight of the car or truck. the camaro more than likly has tires on it to go that fast. most truck tires with exptions are rated for about 112 some are less. It is possible to do 140 with no problems but one day it could. Look at the firestones. It could be a defect. Like anything else its a life in someome hands

the tire people can tell you what the limits are just by looking at them ex ntb, wal-mart tire center, discount tire/tire track

I see your point...but, the whole point about going that fast is that, anything could happen...
Speed is Speed...some people just abuse it...but it is good to know the tire thing...

nfsgrl, are you trying to kill youself? wtf, i just read in the paper not more than 3 weeks ago a girl about 18-19 whom i have met and talked to before, was driving on her way to school, way over the speed limit about 100, lost control (on a road which i travel every moring to the same school) and she slid sideways for a couple hunder feet before hitting a telephone pole on the passenger side. she was passing someone and when she was getting back into her lane she over correct. so the driver she passed saw it happen. the police also said the from the passenger side of the car the the drivers side of the car measured 1 foot. she was crushed to death, and the car swung around the pole a few times the person behind her said.
im not trying to be an a$$hole but there is no reason why you should be driving that fast. and alot of times you never know how stupid something is untill its to late. so please dont ever turn that key.

Need 4 Speed Grl....
Go over to www.dodgetrucks.org and www.moparchat.com
They have large and informative Ram forums. People over there might still lecture you about speeding, but they will know a little more about tips & tricks, too. There are computer flashes that will get you more power and get rid of your speed limiters and make your tranny feel a lot more solid.
Good luck over there at those forums.... Just read the archives and you will get a lot more than 20 Questions answered.
