Subject: Armor all or other protectent IP: Logged
Message: Hey everyone who see this message. Just wanted to know I've heard from a friend that Armor All isn't as good of a protector as its suppose to be. He told me that it accutally hurty the finish of most dashes. Just wondering is there a better protectent. I've used Armor All for as long as I can remember. Thanx Brian

Message: It's not so much that it hurts the dash. It probably hurts you and your passengers more. Sunshine coming through your windows causes a reaction in the Armor All and a gas is formed. If you look closely at your front windshield when that happens a glaze forms on it. Most people I know have stopped using it inside their vehicles. There is another protectant on the market that was developed by NASA called 303 Protectant. It doesn't release any gasses. Another thing you can use is silicone. Pretty much works the same way, it keeps the rubber resilient.

Message: That 303 stuff is really cool. we just got it in at my work and it works awesome. If you've ever bought a tonneau cover from Extang, it suggests a product called Tonno Tonic, its the same stuff. Anyways, that haze on the windshields that Ron W is talking about actually comes from the plastics in your dashboard. I never eat, smoke, or drink in my truck and I've never used armor all on the dash, but I still get the haze. I called the dealer and they said it was called "plastic haze" and that it comes from the sun hitting the dashboard. They said that it cleans up easily (yeah right) and to give it a few years to "work itself out". Thats my opinion, I could be wrong.

Message: A friend of mine who owns an upholstery shop told me that Armor-All is petroleum based and despite what they claim, it will dry out the vinyl over a period of time. The fumes from the vinyl are what accumulate on the windshield. He said I should sparingly use a silicon-based product like 2001 or something along that line.

Message: I hate that glare on my windshield. I don't get the haze too much but them I am always cleaning my truck.
Oddly enough, when I go fishing, my polarized sun glasses cut the glare out.

Message: unknown to most Armour All is mostly a water based material. I am a part owner in a detailing shop, and all we use is Meguires. I have seen some of the really sh*ty things armour all has done to some dashes (extensive cracking and peeling) and I would never use it personally or on a clients car.
