Subject: Weird happening w/ Radiator Tube Clamps? IP: Logged
Message: Hey, ok about 2500k miles ago i was changing my oil and i decided to look around in my engine bay. While i was looking around, i followed the lower Radiator hose down to where the T-Stat goes in (lower radiator hose clamp) and when i LIGHTLY touched the clamp i felt it fall off... i thought to myself.. WTF!!... so i felt around the clamp a little more and it was broke in 3 peices!!... i figured the heat from the radiator caused the metal to expand and then break??..... but anyways, i replaced the clamp with a hose clamp.
Today, about 2500k miles later, i go outside to warm my truck up, go back inside, get ready for work, blah blah blah, and about 10 mins later i go into my kitchen and look out to my truck and i see a shine of fluid on the ground under my engine. So im thinking to myself, WTF!!.. so i go out and look under my truck and sure enough its COOLANT!!... so i pop the hood and check the tube and its the top clamp of the lower radiator hose this time!!... its BROKEN!!.. but not completely off, but its got a slow leak... so now if i dont leave, then ill be late for work. I plan on going home and fixing it, but does anyone know what could be wrong??? if anything or why my clamps are breaking???
gotta get back to work... later!

Message: Similar thing happend to mine. The clamp on the lower radiator hose connecting to the water pump seemed to have moved. I moved the clamp back over and its fine now. It was wierd b/c while the truck was running it wouldn't leak, but when i would shut it off and sit there and watch it, it would take about 1-2 minutes before it would start leaking. Only thing i can think of is that the factory clamps they use go bad and give.

Message: Exact same thing happened to me after i got my truck back from body shop. They easily fix it with another clamp and made sure it was secure in it.
