Subject: gearing question IP: Logged
Message: 99 5.2L club cab. Anyone know if I could change the stock gearing to get my dakota to rev less in o/d for better mileage, and then just leave the O/d off when I tow my inclosed motorcycle trailer. Im pretty sure my gears are 395.I would like to get it down around 1300 rpm @ 60mph in O/D. Any sugestions?

Message: We went over the issue of changing gears to improve gas mileage about a week ago. It basicly came down to the cost of changing gears might incur a cost to you that would take you many gas tanks to start making a dime off the switch. In other words, it could do more harm to your wallet than good.
Have you looked to any alternatives to saving fuel? One easy one would be to use better habits. We all have the habit of "lets see if something is at Wally World" instead of making a telephone call to an incompetant moron. That kind of thing.
