Subject: Pistol grip shifter for a Dak! IP: Logged
Message: Just a thought. Anyone interested in a reproduction of the classic MoPar pistol grip shifter for their Dak. You would be able to pick the handle wood and color. If there is interest, a manufacturer would be willing to build one that fits Daks. It would be a chrome shifter handle and pistol grip, set up to screw right into existing base. What do you think? I was thinking of the Hurst shifter but I like this idea even more.

If they have enough interest they will custom-make handles to fit the Dakota. They are made of polished stainless steel and you have a choice of many exotic wood handles/colors. Truely works of art!
I'm not affiliated with them in any way, but I have personally dealt with Scott- very upstanding vendor to deal with.

Message: What John says is right. It's not a secret as to who will do this. The point is, if there is some interest, they will design and manufacture a pistol grip that will fit the Dak.
They are beautiful, but not cheap. If we get ten people interested, they will give us about a 10% discount on the order as well as do the designwork needed.
Bryan, call or visit the local Dodge dealership and find out if the shifter handle is the same as Gen III. Either way they can make it, the problem is that I told Scott that I would provide a stock handle so the pistol grip could be made. If they are different, he would need the handle that fits the Gen II.
If there are enough people, I will go through with my end of the bargain (provide Gen III handle). Then we can get together and order them directly through Scott, not me. I just want a pistol grip, I'm not in it for any profit. That's the deal, any interest?

Message: Very nice repro shifter, how well do you think those will work tho? Ive got a 01 5 speed dak and the shifter comes pretty close to the dash as it is in the 1,3 and 5th gear.I know it has a bend but then it might come to close to the seat when in 2,4 and reverse, also might be slightly different depending if you have buckets or the split bench seats but I would be tempted if it works well and came with a carbon fibre handle, any idea on a price tag?

Message: Just as a reference, the normal going price for one of Domingo/Scott's repros of an existing Mopar musclecar Pistol Grips is in the $250-$350 range (much lower than the cost of a decent used original- if you can find one).

Message: I forgot, remember these are custom made. The original pistol grips exist, these do not (yet). Hence a little higher price!

Message: The folks at Keisler told me they would make a pistol grip for me that would thread on to my Hurst stck. Sounds cool, but it would make it way too tall. Anyway, I "think" they said do it for just under $200, wood grips like the original. Here's the place:

Message: For all of you Dak owners,
I purchased an Pistol Grip Shifter to put and my RT Dakota, which all were automatics. I purchased my shifter from Scott also in 2002. It was a nightmare to install, but it was all worth the trouble. I purchased as much stock pieces as I could as to give the truck a factory look as possible. Even eliminating the factory colum shifter and relocating the overdrive button. If you look close enough only a Dakota owner would know it was a automatic RT. But most people now think it's an manual shifted 5-Speed R/T. I went as far as changing all the pedals also, by adding a clutch pedal and installing the old original reverse light mounted on the dash from back on the late 60's, early 70's Muscle Mopars. People can't believe their eyes when they see the inside of my truck. I have pictures if anyone is interested in seeing what it looks like. I used a Bench seat style pistol grip shifter for a B-Body, to clear my bucket seat and console, and dash. Would fit bench seat style Dakota also. Thanks Rex

Message: I don't know about the pictured handle. If you have wrapped your hand around a real pistol grip handle of the 70's you would see the old grips seem more defined, like slipping on a glove. The one pictured looks like it just has some bumps for grips. Maybe if the other side was shown it would answer my question better.
