Subject: O2 Sensor Trouble Code IP: Logged
Message: The check engine light was coming on and it gave code 21. The AutoXray DTC reader I used read "oxygen sensor shorted to high voltage". I could not find this exact error message among the possible causes of trouble code 21, so i figured that at 70k miles, not having ever replaced the oxygen sensor, it was time to do so. I replaced it then cleared trouble codes using the AutoXray unit. Code 21 still present after a new scan. Tried warming up the engine, then clearing trouble codes again. Code 21 still there (check engine light stays on while engine is running).
Does the 92 Dak 5.2 have two O2 sensors? Could this short be cause by a bad second sensor (if there is one)? Any clues folks?
Thanks,
Igor Mack

Message: I'm having the exact same problem with my 97 5.2 Dakota. It happened once before but the light went off after several days driving. Now its back on again, code check shows 12 and 21 same as last time. Can anyone help me and Igor? I was thinking to replace the O2 sensors,I think there is two from what I've read, one before and one after the cat. We need help!!

Message: my problem was probably due to the defective ECU I just replaced, cause that code is gone now.

Message: the lowest code, in this case a 12, cannot be fixed nor cleared, it will go away after 50 successful key on cycles.
12 = the battery cable was unplugged during the last 50 key on cycles
