Message: Hey everyone. Just would like to know if anyone has a slide in camper for thier Dakota? If so, what kind is it, how does it handle, what have you added to your truck to help with load? Thanks for your response. Kevin.

Message: According to the manufacturer, the Dakota in not intended for slide-in camper use and is discouraged.
I imagine that some substantial suspension changes would have to be made.

Message: I've seen one by my girlfriends parents house. It's a 4x4 quadcab. He had to put airbags on the back to keep the rear end from sagging. Makes a great offroad/camping/hunting truck.

Message: I have a 7'6" import camper for my '98 Dakota CC 4X4. It handles just great, even with a 3" body lift and 33's. I just had a suspension buddy put in a couple add-a-leafs and all is fine. I also had to modify some camper bars to fit, as at the time there were none available on the market. I believe now you can buy all the proper camper bars to fit. With the camper, if you get an import camper rather than a new expensive Dakota camper, you have to lift the camper up by about 2 1/2" so it will clear the cab and box rails. My camper is an '85 Slumber Queen and weighs around 1000 lbs.
