Message: I'm sorry, waste your money if you want, but I believe in changing oil every 3,000 and I'm not spending good money on high priced synthetics! I use a good quality oil and put new in every 3,000 it gives me much more peace of mind than running synthetics a long time between oil changes. I had a 95 ram before my dak and ran it 90k with only a therm-o-stat replacement as the only mechanical problem. never an engine or oil related problem. Sold it to a guy at work who's still driving it. He asked me how I was changing the oil and said he was going to continue the same way.

Early 1970's:
-Tires lasted no more than about 15,000 miles.
-A complete tune up including distributor cap /
rotor, wires, plugs and points every 15 - 20,000
miles.
-Complete carburetor overhaul at 30 - 40,000
miles.
-Anti-freeze flush and fill every twelve months.
-Oil change interval then ... Three months or
3,000 miles whichever comes first.
Today:
-Tires can last over 100,000 miles !
-Spark plugs that can last over 100,000 miles !!
-Virtually "Maintenance free" E.F.I. !!
-Extended life coolants? Yippee !!
...... but oil still needs to be changed every
3,000 miles ??
BULLSH!T !

Message: It's all a matter of preference folks. Quite a few folks have personal testimonies for how they have not had a problem doing it their way.
Case in point...old buddy of mine insists on using synthetic for he has used it for years without problems and he puts about 60K miles a year on his truck. What he does is every three months he changes the filter only and just tops off the oil....that's it.
So basically, whatever floats your boat.

Message: Guys,
I have been experimenting with the Regular oil and the semi/synethic and the full synethic oil. And what I have found...
All Different Brands...
Each test was done 3 times... eg 4000kms test 1, 3000kms test 2, and 2500kms test 3 with same oil
Regular oil. 5w/30
1. Changed every 4000kms... Black as hell
2. Changed every 3000kms... Black as hell
3. Changed every 2500kms... Half decent Still quite black tho
Semi/Synethic old 5w/30
1. Changed every 4000kms... black but half desent still quite black tho
2. Changed every 3000kms... getting better but still black
3. Changed every 2500kms... Good color... But black
Full/Synethic Oil
1. Changed every 4000kms... looks like new
2. Changed every 3000kms... looks like new
3. Changed every 2500kms... looks like new
Right now I have passed 7000kms mark... check the oil and the dipstick is not really dirty... Dark Brown/light Black look to it... but the oil is really holding up...
Take whatever you want to out of this post... but from whatever you guys say... this just proves it to me to use the full synethic stuff.
I am not wasting money... i am going to check the truck when she gets up to 10,000 kms and see what the oil looks like .. I will do a change anyway...
Just so you guys know that it lasted and is running great the engine runs smoother for me... i have 120,000 kms on my 2000 4.7l/manual v8 cc DAK. I prize my self on the performance of my truck... i have babied here since day one when i got her... don't know if you guys care as much as i do about the life of your trucks .. But I figure that I just paid XXX amount of dollars for this hunk of metal... i am going to keep it running...
My 02. Cents
Ryan
