Subject: gas gauge possessed by evil forces IP: Logged
Message: My gas gauge on my '91 4x4 5.2L has been taken over by satan's miniuns. When there's gas in the tank it drops to empty and to full, generally all over the place. What can I do to exorcise the evil?

Message: Very common problem with Gen II daks. You need a new sending unit. Attaches to the fuel pump and is sold seperately at your local Dodge dealer.
Changed mine recently, not too big a deal if you have a couple guys help lift off the bed and move it back a couple feet. Or you could drop the tank.

Message: Yep, inside the tank. Evil, isn't it! When you get to the top of the gas tank, you'll find a large plastic ring (or nut) that holds the fuel pump in place. You should also get a new gasket for that while you're changing the sending unit. Sending unit is attached to the pump module with 3 screws. You just disconnect a few wires and hoses and pull the pump out of the tank.
This is expensive to have done at a dealer but requires nothing more than basic hand tools to do yourself with a couple buddies. An independent garage is also an option. They would normally be cheaper than the dealer.

Message: The one on my 94' was replaced in 95' and so far so good, so I guess it was worth the price. At the time it was still under warrenty.

Message: For my '92 the sending unit was $69 at the dealer. The gasket (or seal as they call it) was $8. Don't know if it will last longer than the original.
