Subject: Offset axle-again, quality control??

Had my '01 qc, 1500 miles, in for an alignment yesterday, as tires were flaring badly, and pulling to the right. Didn't have time to go to dealer, so used independent guy. The toe was almost off the scale of their machine, but fortunately easy to fix (why didn't Dodge?).

He also looked at the axle situation, and confirmed that it does really stick out to one side. Not just a bed alignment thing. He also confirmed, fortunately, that the truck is straight, and will drive straight. He commented that the tire sticks out over 1" from the flare, which in California may be a vehicle code violation? Hmmm. Will check into this and see what my local dealer thinks. Seems that free flares are a cheap price to bring a truck into motor vehicle code compliance.

Hey, at least I know the truck will go straight, and my tires will hopefully last.

To add to the fun, I got a bill from dealer yesterday that there was a mistake on my invoice and I owe them more money! That is the next letter I draft.

Funny thing, though, is that I love this damned truck. Just wish Dodge would actually consider implementing quality control. Every item that has been wrong on my truck since delivery was checked off on the predelivery inspection sheet, and initialled. Everything could've been caught and corrected if someone was awake at the wheel.

I have the same problem with my Dak. The left side tires stick out from the side, but not the right side. I know it's not just my eyes playing tricks. I wish it wasn't like that. It bugs the heck out of me.

Mark,
Let us know what you find out about the California code on that. I'd like to see a recall to get that fixed. It's tacky.

James.

Spent some time going thru the on-line dmv code and couldn't find anything, but did find reference to CHP requirements. That is probably where this issue falls. I'll be checking with them next chance I get. Does anyone else out there know the rules here?
