Subject: Dynamat Sound Damping Material IP: Logged
Message: Has anyone used this stuff in a Dak for quieting road noise? I would like to get some when I get around to upgrading my stereo system. I guess its supposed to make the interior quieter and make the stereo sound better. Has anyone used it? If so, which areas did you put it, and how much did you use?
Thanks for any help.

Message: I was looking for someone who actually used this stuff in their own Dak so I would know the best areas to concentrate on, how much they used, and if it helped to quiet the interior that much, or if it would be a waste of money. Anyone out there dynamat their Dak?

Message: I used a small amount of it around the speakers in the door panels. Cant say it really made much of a difference. About all I can say is that it can be a real pain to get it to conform to all the odd shaped surfaces on the steel door panel. I can't imagine how difficult it would be to do the entire door panel. For quieting interior noise, probably better off getting undercoating (which could also be carefully applied to the interior door chambers).

This product is exceptionally good... on FLAT surfaces, but there AREN'T ANY inside your doors, which happens to be the cause of most of your unwanted noise. You can use it on the floor sections - and anything is helpful - but the door thing is basically a wa$te....
Can't hear your stereo? Try a larger amp.

Message: when i got my system, I had a big rattle on the back wall of the clubcab. I used the extream dynomat (it's the same price as the origional d-mat but better) solved the problem. If you use the origional d-mat you have to heat it with a heat gun to get it to contour to the groves. The extream dosent requier any heat and I found it easy to fill the cracks. If you want to do a whole pannle cut the d-mat into strips about an inch wide and place the strips about an inch away from eachother. The whole pannel dosent have to be covered for it to work. over time i'm expecting more rattles to pop up, so im going to d-mat the doors and rear panles to prevent it from happining. if anything it will be better than nothing.

Message: Dynamat.
In a nutshell, it's anti-vibration tape. Imagine dampening a cymbal. You don't see massive amounts of tape to do it. It's the same concept as dampening a speaker in a door panel.
You don't need to do the entire door. Just a few squares of dynamat will be able to stop vibration to your metal doors. I placed 4"x4" squares of dynamat directly behind each of my door speakers.
4"x4" 4"x4"
speaker
4"x4" 4"x4"
This should dampen any kind of vibration that originates from your speaker. Now, road vibration and wind noise will take more effort.

Message: Did most of a trunk once(not a Dakota)....had no problems, just takes lots off time and prep...well worth it though. It's how the big boys win the sound-offs. My 2 cents....

Message: Has anyone installed the speaker "cups" in their doors? They are the foam inserts that install in the speaker hole first and then the speaker goes into there...Claims that it increases bass response and keeps speakers clean/
