Subject: Quick towing question IP: Logged
Message: I have 2 snowmobiles to tow in the winter. I have a '97 Sport 4x2 2.5L
With such a small engine, would it be easier to tow with one snowmobile in the back of the truck, and one on the trailer?
or 2 on the trailer nothing in the back of truck?
Thanks for answers.

Message: I'd put them both on the trailer. How much does a snowmobile weigh? To be honest, all I ever towed with my 2.5l was a boat/trailer that weighed 1100 pounds - the suspension could have handled more, but on hills you didn't want any more weight than that.

Message: The trailer weighs 500lbs, each snowmobile roughly 550 lbs.
Figure the load is about 1500lbs.
I tow a 14' fiberglass boat, about 1000 lbs maybe- I dont have any trouble with this- but I will be towing the snowmobiles way up into the mountains of maine so hills are my problem.
Thanks for the input.

Message: Well, this is based on my experience with my 2001 3.9 4x4 Club Cab. I have towed a trailer with three snowmobiles on it and have had no problems. Of course, you have a different engine and a 4x2 so I don't want to tell you what to do, but based on my experiences the trailer should be fine, but do what you feel comfortable doing.

Message: I once towed a ~1000 lb trailer through the mountains of N.Georgia with a 4 bangin ranger. I made it over blood mountain, but my pride didnt.
Your weight dist. will be fine either way as far as your suspension goes, but remember that a 500lb load in your bed can decrease the weight on your front tires, which can be a bad thing in places where you would take a snowmobile. You might want to put them on the trailer for no other reason than that.
