Subject: 3.55? IP: Logged
Message: This question is in relation to another I have asked before.
If you can order a Dakota 2WD 4.7 Auto 3.55
with two different tire sizes?
215/75R15 = overall height of 27.6 in
235/75R15 = overall height of 28.9 in
And tire revolutions per mile have a direct effect on the axle ratio, each tire has a different amount of revolutions.
How can both be 3.55 even thought that is what is installed?

Message: The axle gears are fixed although i think you understand that. The fact that you can run anything from a 24 inch tire to a 35 inch mudder isnt going to change the ratio of the gears themselves but it will change how the vehicle goes through the gears. Basically you are changing the ratio from an external source not internally. When dodge or many other companies sell you gears, they wont worry about tire diameter unless it is abnormally out of size.
Someone here should be able to calculate your CORRECTED ratio if this is what you really care about.
For anyone looking to change their setup from 3.55's to 4.10's just bolt on some firefly tyres and let er rip!
