Message: An easy way to clean oil sludge out of any engine is to go to a Jiffy Lube and for about $100, they will do an internal engine cleansing using some kind of hot oil treatment. I do this once a year.

Message: follow-up:
Last week while doing an oil change (Mobil 1)
I removed the oil fill tube to clean it out AGAIN
and, wrapped approx. 10 feet of metallic insulation tape around it, hoping it will help
retaining some heat inside to prevent the famous
"cold weather sludge/oil emulsion/sludge build-up.
Well, after a week of slightly above freezing
weather and short 10 mile trips to work (1/2 on hwy.), the sludge is still re-appearing..
Now I want to try and build some sort of shield
to block the airflow coming from the cooling fan.
has anyone experimented anything else ?

Message: Hi, My two cents. I had sludge ( a little ) from new. My driving is usually 5 miles to and from work during the week. The first oil change was with dino oil. the second was convert to synthetic ( mobil 1 ) which the dealer had. The third was valvoline ( the dealer said they had lots of trouble with mobil sludging and getting too dirty ( not vaporizing the dirt or suspending it properly ). The forth and fifth have been with amsoil. Since the switch to amsoil, my 'oil' has been relatively clean, and my engine sludge free as far as I can tell. The oil also smells almost the same from new to the change. The others smelled old and dirty. I think I will be using amsoil from now on...... and my dealer is "happy to see that someone cares enough to use amsoil" a quote. Also, the pressure stays the same from new to the change ( right on the line ). with the others including dino, it was good for about 4 - 6 hundred miles but then dropped off a bit. New it was just over the line, after that it dropped to about a needle width below the line, and at idle it would go almost to the first line or really second of the four lines if that makes sense ( maybe others guages are diff than mine. But the other stuff sucked, the amsoil seems to be a world better.

DODGE DEALERSHIPS NOW CARRY AMSOIL !!!
This was posted by Sephiroth 3/20/2004

Message posted by Sephiroth:
"I went in to have my brakes checked today, and when I walked into the garage the first thing I saw made my jaw hit the floor. My local dealership now uses and sells AMSOIL products!! They've got it posted on a big banner over the service-desks. GM may not have been able to get it for their 'vettes, but obviously Dodge was able to, or they found out how awesome it is and started buying at regular price! When I go in for a tranny-filter, fluid, and gasket change next week, it's getting filled with AMS."
Sephiroth went on to state:
"This is at the Raleigh, NC dealership, Al Smith Buick, Dodge, Mazda. I told the guy at the desk I was astounded to see them using AMSOIL and that I had been using it for a while now. After he rode in the truck he said he'd be switching next oil-change in his Ram.
As for me, I've got it in the engine, and I'll have it in the tranny soon! Next up are the differentials. After that I need to get a dyno just for curiosity's sake. IF I get 3-5hp form the differential, and God knows how much from the engine and tranny, that'll be enough without any heavy mods. Well, for all I do anyway. If it is a significant gain, I'll post the results."

Message: Auto-Rx will remove the sludge but not any damage that was done. Did you see this yourself or were you told this? Maybe a second opinion is in order with such a dire prognosis. If you decide to Auto-Rx it go to Auto-Rx.com and e-mail them. They may want you to follow a severe schedule for that much sludge. Good luck.

Message: I saw the valve cover last night. Definately sludge. I never saw any deposits on the fill tube or the stick. This is why this is so messed up, I can't figure it out. I used to work for Mobil and was in a test study with the synthetic and never saw any thing like this. They want to pull the pan and check the lower end and I'll be out about S500.00 for this. I am going to have it flushed out a couple times and see if this helps with pressure and to clean it up.

Message: I had a 2000 4.7 Durango. I noticed the sludge in mine. After I changed to synthetic, I saw no more of the sludge. Use something like Amsoil or Mobil1. This is not a problem with good synthetics and if you have it, it will clear up. That doohickey they gave me to put in the filler tube was a bunch of crap!
