Subject: Noise when in 4X4 and turning IP: Logged
Message: I've noticed that when in 4X4 mode and turn sharply either left or right truck kind of staggers and sounds like a tire being skipped across the pavement. Dealer says it is normal when in 4X4 mode and making sharp turns.
Truck is fine otherwise.
Is this right? Warr expires in a few months so I'd like to be sure. Thanks.

Message: That is probably normal. Mine does that as well. When you have 4x4 on, the front wheels are turning at the same speed. When in 4x2 mode, the front tires are not turning at the same speed in a turn, that's what makes the truck turn. When you are on drive pavement trying to make a turn with the front wheels turning at the same speed, you will hear noises and the wheels will try and skip along the pavement. That's why you should only put on 4x4 when you are in the mud or on slick surfaces so the wheels can slip a little bit, if you do that, you shouldn't hear the noise as much and the wheels won't skip.

I thought about how mothers feed their babies with tiny little spoons and forks, so I wondered what do Chinese mothers use? Toothpicks?

Message: Ditto what everyone has said. It is called drive shaft bind/axle bind. It only happens when the wheels have plenty of traction. It is hard on drivetrain. Avoid useing partime four wheel drive when not need and if their is alot of tract turn it off to take tight turns.

Message: Tom, any reason you're driving on pavement with 4wd on? A general rule about using 4wd mode is not to use it on dry pavement (or other solid-gripping surfaces) ... your tires, gears and a lot of other parts throughout your drivetrain will thank you for it.
