Message: For those of you who don't change your own oil, where do you have it done? I refuse to go to the dealership, and I usually take it to shop by my house. I'm curious if any of you have used those "quick lube" places, and if there any good. There's one by my work, that's more convenient, but I won't chance it if these places have track records for being lousy.
Thanks.
P.S. I did search for this, but couldn't find what I was looking for.

Message: Be careful and watch them like a hawk. Jiffy Lube does a decent job, only use them when I have to and still take my own oil and filter. Took my Rodeo to a private own last year-idiot insisted it only took four quarts (actual is close to six), pulled the dipstick, not a drop on it and he said "OK, it's good". The top of my head came off at that point and I never went back.

Message: I only go to the dealer, and that's maybe once a year if it's too cold to change the oil myself in the driveway. The rest of the time, I do it myself.
I used one of those chain-quick places once and had a leak from the oil filter plus they overfilled the engine. And I've heard too many stories about what goes on at those places to want to trust them.

Message: The one by my work only has two bays, and you can practically stand in the bays and watch them. I think I'll call them and see if they know how many quarts a 4.7 takes, and what they do with the skid plates. The shop I go to now, I have to specifically ask them to clean up the mess. They never used to be that way.
Oh yeah, I have a Flame Red 2002 cc 4.7 4x4. I love it. Got it on a fluke. I was looking to replace my leased Dakota, and wasn't sure what to get. After going to the dealer a couple of times, they had this one just sitting there. Had the wheel and tire package, looked real good, so I bought on the spot, but not sticker of course.
Anyway, thanks for your help. I've spent some time on these boards and I'm glad we some good and varied opinions.

Message: I also use the Valvoline place locally. I've never had a problem with them but I know a few that have so I always keep a close eye on them and check things over when I get home.

Message: I've never had a problem at wal-mart, jiffy lube, and vavoline. I just go to valvoline with the truck, or do it myself. Guess I'm lucky, (also I'm up 2 screwdrivers that they've left under the hood. heh) But one time they filled my windshield washer just before winter and the thing froze for a month. I was pulling into gas stations every few miles to clean the windshield. ugh

Message: Some Quick Lube places are realy good and train their staff well. Some hire any thing with a heart beat and then drop them in the pit and just yell at them. If you want a decent place try your closet BF GOODWRENCH CERTIFIED DEALER. We just rolled out a large line of fast oil change places that are on the dealer ship lot that is seperate from the rest of the service department. This has freed up Tech.'s to do more serious work. It also is a huge cash cow for dealerships and increases volume to the lot. The staff is trained by ASE certified Tech.'s and they are accountable to GM for DSI type rateings.

Message: I've used the Lube Shops and never had a problem.
And you can see that a couple of shop owners/managers responded that they know DODGE and strive for good customer service.
I bet you'll be OK going to reputable Oil Change place.
