Subject: I need help! Bernd!! Anybody!! IP: Logged
Message: I have 2000 QC 4x4 with the 5.9, I have a k&n drop in and a gibson exhaust on it. I have some money that is burning a hole in my pocket and I am trying figure out what to do with it, approx. $500, but this may be all I have to put into the truck for a while. I thought about installing an MSD ignition, 5 control unit, coil and wires but i was told the 5 wouldnt work with my engine and that i should get the 6a. But I was looking around and found out that hypertech is going to have a power programmer available in the near future and thought maybe i should just wait for that. Now i dont know which to get, the programmer or the ignition, plus i want to put on new shocks and dont know which to go with there either. Ive got it down to either rancho rsx or edelbrocks. Somebody please give me your thoughts on this.
thanks in advance

Message: Do your ignition last, it doesn't really make a noticable difference. It's more for protection (rev limiter) and give you the last little edge on the track. Get yourself a throttle body, like a fastman or something, those make a noticable difference in power. Why don't you get the mopar PCM, isn't it available for your truck?

Message: I believe I can get a pcm for my truck but would i be better off waiting for the hypertech programmer? As far as a throttle body goes, is there a mileage difference? I thought that if i put on a throttle body i would have to make other mods also.

Message: No other mods necessary for the TB upgrade. Get a new 52mm and a good one too. You already have the Drop-in K&N so you might as well finish up the intake side of the house. This should leave you enough to do the shocks depending on the make.
Also, do the IAS relo and TPS adjust(if not close to .7 volts) as mentioned from the speedtweaks site. For now...that is the best you can do for the $$$ you have in my opinion.
Have fun dude.

Message: I personally am getting about 17mpg with a heavy foot commuting to/from Washington DC daily. So I guess the mix between highway/city is 50/50 with the traffic fluctuations.

Message: Which throttle body do you have? How about your stat? Where did you relocate your IAT to.
Thanks again

Message: Get the 50mm, not 52mm if you want to keep your low-end torque. I have a 50mm on backorder for my 00 QC 4x4 5.9L, and have been told by the experts (Bernd, etc.) to get this size since I have a 4x4, and to keep torque up.

Message: TB will not hurt your MPG enough to notice, either get the F&B 50 or Fastman 52 (it flows about the same as the F&B 50). If you plan on adding tons of aftermarket stuff then consider the 52.
You can relocate your IAT to your K&N tube.

Message: TB is a QuickD(means it was used and modified). I would go billet if I had to do it again. Don't get me wrong, I've yet to have any probs with it but you void your TB warranty with Dodge and the QuickD has none. So far so good.
As for the IAT, I originally relocated it to the OEM Box(Top Right, just above the filter and before the Hose opening). Just drill you a 1/4 inch hole and tap it...screws in/out if need be.
Now I've got it going into the modded K&N cone setup.

Message: Thanks guys, I got some very helpfull feedback, I will probably be picking up a fastman 50mm tb, as well as the jba cables, a robertshaw stat and the tune up kit from the speadtweaks people. All of that at the same time should make quite a difference.
Thanks!
