Message: I see some of you guys have GenI, GenII, GenIII under your names. I assume this referes to the body style of your Dakotas. I have a 93 4x4 Dakota w/318 and thought it was a GenII, but I guess something went wrong when I put in my info for registration and now it says GenI. I think it should be GenII, right?

Message: Yes, yours is what is considered a Gen II. It seems the breakdown developed as such:
87-90 = Gen I – Premag 4 cyl and V6 only, though the 89 Shelby had a V8 which was actually and aftermarket swap by Shelby Enterprises.
91-96 = Gen II – even though the magnum didn’t come out until 92, most people say the magnum is what makes it a Gen II, which would bring into question, is a 91, a Gen II? Most people say it is because the nose was rounded off to fit a V8 and makes it a second body style. But, with exception to the hood, grill, front bumper and radiator supports, all of the other body parts are interchangeable with the 87-90. I never understood why this is considered a second body style and have always believed it was just an evolution of the early body.
97-01 = Gen III – Complete redesign to a Ram like Body Style.
