Subject: Seeking advice re: purchasing warranty IP: Logged
Message: I was wondering if anyone has purchased an extended warranty/service contract from Dodge or somewhere else?
My factory warrantly expires in about 1000 miles and i'd really like the peace of mind having some type of coverage for a major mechanical breakdown.
Anyone have any advice they can offer?
Thanks.

Message: Stick with a DC warranty. You never know if the aftermarket ones will be in business tomorrow.

Message: i work in the auto service field, and with the aftermarket warranty companies( servicing customer's vehicles that have the warranty). i have no experience with the DC extended warranty, but i would definitely not purchase an aftermarket warranty. of the ones that i have dealt with, getting approval and payment was a downright hassle(had one customers vehicle tied up for 3 days waiting on approval for an hour job, then for another 4 days waiting on payment) and due to being stuck several times by the warranty companies(repairs approved, fixed and sent on their way, only to have the warranty company deny payment later) the vehicles dont leave until i recieve payment.
i think that the extended warranties are a waste of money. you typically don't have as much in (covered)repairs as you do in the purchase of the warranty(otherwise how would they make enough money to stay in business)

Message: dragrdan, thanks for the input. The "hassle" factor was definitely a concern regarding an aftermarket warranty. Your comments are stearing me away from that for sure.
However, I do want to buy some sort of warranty now while i have the money as i plan on taking on a mortgage payment soon. Once i've signed off on a mortgage i won't be able to afford any crazy $3000 repair bills.
Anyone have any experience with purchasing Chrystler's extended warranty?

Message: Not bad if you don't mind them starting at the date of manufacture for the vehicle.
I got a 99 DAK last Jan (01) and just found out that the service contract started the day the truck was originally delivered. (99) so my 5 yr 100,000 Xwarranty is really only a 3 yr 86,000 warranty.
I need to take it in to have the front end looked at 'under warranty' since my front tires are bald on the inside and I want to check the ball joints.shocks.etc... before I parlay for new rubber. Seems worth the $50 deductible to me.

Message: I bought a DC 4 yr/100,000 bumper to bumper on my truck when I bought it(the truck that is). My only other advice or statement is remember every dealer can set their own prices on the warranties. Call a few and you will see what I mean. Usually they sell it for dbl what it costs them. I paid $800 for mine, dealer cost was around $750. They wanted to charge me $1500, then tried to give me a deal at $1100. Some deal seeing what their actual cost was. Good luck

Message: Big Blue,
You're not kidding. I did some leg work and found that the markup on these things is ridiculous!
My dealer wanted a almost double what i found some other dealers selling them for. I think I got my local dealer to match what i found them for on the internet (ahh, the power of the internet!). Still not sure if i'm going to buy one though.
If anyone's looking the best prices I found were here...
