Subject: 95 CC Problem Starting IP: Logged
Message: Howdy all...........
I have a 95 CC 4X4 with the lovely 3.9L. Not that any of that matters but it might!! The problem is- the truck won't start.
I can turn the key and get NOTHING. Turn it again, nothing. Turn it again, nothing. Turn it again, nothing. Turn it again, VROOOM!
Now, this usually occurs first thing in the morning and it seems after that it's good for the rest of the day. The battery is good, the charging system is good. Does this reek of a bad starter solinoid (sp?)? Is it a royal b*tch to change on a 4X4? Any other thoughts?
Anyone experience anything similar?
Thanks in advance.........
Mark

Message: I checked that thread and I guess the difference is that mine has been doing this everyday for the past six months or so! No change in symtoms, just keep turning the key and eventually it'll start. I know I need to fix it, I was just wondewring if anyone had anything similar......
I wish it was a one time deal!

Message: When you turn the key does the starter make any sound at all like a click or pop or anything? Try getting a cranking amps draw reading with a volt meter and an inductive amp probe if you have access to one. If the starter just clicks when you turn the key here is a simple test you can try.
Use a remote starter if you have one or have someone sit inside the truck to turn the key. Position yourself under the truck near the starter. Hit the remote starter or turn the key while tapping on the starter with the hammer. If you can not easily tap the starter with the hammer use a small extension to get access to it. If the starter engages when you tap on it then there is a 90% chance that the brushes in the starter are bad and you should just replace the starter.
