Subject: MUD FLAPS-Y/N??? IP: Logged
Message: I got my $50 debit card finally from DC in the mail for taking a test drive (not really but the salesman I bought my truck from just signed off on it anyway). I was thinking about buying the factory mudflaps with the ram head logo. What is everyone's opinion on mudflaps? Are they really useful or a waste of money? Do they make the truck look better? All opinions welcome. Thanks.

Message: I got the factory molded splash guards on my Black '01 4x4 CC, keeps the mud off the paint for the most part, but more important it keep the mud out from behind the rear tailight. If mud gets back there, everytime you wash it dirt comes trickling out from behind the tailight after you thought you were done.
I think they (the molded ones with the ram on them) looks cool...but hey, I'm 39, I might be an old man.

Message: Dr. Dakota - do you have a pic you can email me? My main concern would be stone chips in the rear quarter. I like the way the truck looks now without them but if it protects AND looks good then I may consider them. If they look like crap and don't do anything for preventing damage from debris then what's the point?

Message: The best kind is the Yosemite Sam ones that say Back Off. Those would look great.
Or those ones you see on the trucks in Montana that are 5 feet wide and say Big Sky Country. Those rock also.
I think you should also get a CB antenna bolted to your bumper that's about 20' long with a tennis ball on it. And let it flap in the wind.
And dont' forget the tennis ball on your trailer hitch ball. Which has the wiring harness sticking out and sort of dangling free. With the elctrical tape that's kind of coming unwound.
And dont' forget the diamond-plate steel bedrail covers. Those look good.
And cheap aluminum running boards. Those go well with mudflaps.
And get a bug deflector. THose rock.

Message: The factory flaps look pretty good I think. The logo is embossed so it does not stick out too much - I worried that they would look like a Dodge commerical. They are molded to fit the flares and thus compliment the truck nicely. If want I could take a picture of mine (I need to update my web site anyway). The lower back quarter panels of the truck bed collect dirt and road grime pretty quickly without 'em.

Message: I have the molded splash guards and have been very happy with both the looks and the protection they offer against chips, dirt and tar on the rear panel undersides. Before I had the guards put on, I was constantly cleaning that area (and it's a pain, too), but now there's absolutely nothing to clean. The only disappointment for me was the Ram's head logo is not embossed in silver, but is just impressed into the plastic. That's okay, though, they still look fine and I highly recommend them. They're also very easy to put on.

Message: I have seen some embossed with the silver on ebay, but the ones that the dealer sells are just plain back, yet the ebay ones appear to be in a Mopar package.
Anyone know ?

Message: I went to the dealer last week to buy some touch up paint for my Dak. Sitting on the shelf were the V-Tek rear tail light covers that I bought from someone on Ebay for 20, Dealer price...34 bucks.
So I am walking through still and see these mud flaps with the Ram Logo on them...asked the guy at the counter how much..he says 12.99. I thought he was jokin. You can't find anything at the dealer for that price. So I bought me a set.
I took them home, installed them in about an hour. Took both the rear wheels off to do this.
I like them. The chrome logo really stands out, although I am thinking about replacing the chrome with red paint, to match the truck.
To who ever wanted pics, I will try to post a pic here tonight when I get off from work, as well as the part number of the kit that I bought.

Message: Thanks Mark. Much appreciated. $12.99? Dang. My dealer has them for $18 each. $36 a pair x 2pair would be $72 - $50debit card still = $22. Mark, did you get flaps for both front and back?
When you installed them, they just bolt right on?

Message: dan,
E-bay may be cheaper.
I think they have self tapping screws.
Buy the Mopar ones, I've had customers come into the shop asking us to install the universals for them and there just not so universal, they suck.

I have pictures of mud flaps on my truck on my web site.
http://2002dakotasport.netfirms.com
Look under the current mod's and its 1/2 way down the page.
Reason I got them is so when I'm muddin :O) I don;t kick up a BIG rock and damage the underside of my door or my bed..PLUS the look really cool..OR at least I think so.
Hope this helps..

Message: The very first thing I got for my truck were the factory molded ones because I have a loooooong stone driveway, more like a long personal road, of which I have to drive down just to get out on the street. Then, I'm always kicking those little stones with my off road tires for almost half a mile and, well, you get the picture. I not a fan of how any mud flaps look, but they're definately cheaper and easier to deal with than shelling out the bucks for paving that doggone driveway!

Message: Dan
i have updated my website and has a pic of my truck with the mud flaps you were looking to buy. I think they look nice on my truck, then again, that is my opinion.
Anyway...click on the MY DAK link and scroll down. If you want pics of how they installed I can send them to you via email. Pretty easy install really. The hardest thing was taking off the rear tires.

Message: yes get them especially if u live in the snow belt and or drive in the rain alot. I have the molded ones that go withthe wheel flairs and it really completes the look. HOWEVER,I HAVE HAD ONE PROBLEM IF YOU DO ANY OFF ROADING (MINE IS A 2WD SO IT SITS LOWER) YOU WILL CATCH THE MUD FLAPS ON BIG ROCKS AND OR THE GROUND DEPENDING ON APPROACH AND ANGLE. I HAVE RIPPED ONE RIGHT OFF BACKING OVER A CURB A FEW MONTHS AGO. THE MOLDED TYPE DONOT FLEX THAT MUCH SO BE CAREFUL ALSO IF U CARRY HEAVY LOADS WATCH THE DIPS IN THE ROAD OR U WILL SCRAPE THE BOTTOM OF THEM EVERY TIME! SO THERE IS MY PRO AND CON AND MY 2 CENTS WORTH!
