 Subject: Removal of intake and PCM?

Alright, I recent bought an Airaid intake, which im not happy with and paid some good money for. Now, my question is, I have 6 more days before I have to contact the place I bought it from to return it to them for a full refund. I plan on getting a K&N setup for my 4.7. So my question is, if I pull the Airaid setup, and put the stock cover back on with the regular filter for the time being, I just have to let my PCM retrain itself, and then once I get my K&N, install it, and then let the PCM retrain itself once again? Not too much retraining going on here without acctually disconnecting a leg to the battery.

motorsportdak: take a look at the instructions on K&N's site for their new FIPK for the 4.7. you'll see it's almost exactly the same as your Airaid with the exception of an extra silicone hose. i'm not an expert on flow dynamics, but neither setup looks any good.

see, the thing im looking at though.. they didnt have a picture on their site, but the install directions. If you look, they give you a whole hose that you connect from the intake right to the TB. If you look at the Airaid, it simply hookes up to the hose thats their, which connects to the airhat. K&N's way of doing it is much better because there is less restrictions on the hose which the air is being carried through, along with the removal of the airhat. The air will flow much more freely, without getting lag from the ripple effect on the stock stuff in there now.

and then you still have a heat shield on 3 sides, the hood covering the top, with the only opening near the fender. doesnt seem to be very conducive to positive airflow. also, i dunno how much you paid for the Airaid, but $225+ for 5-7 HP is a rip-off...sure it will flow a little better than stock, but both K&N and Airaid have a horribly setup heatshield. although the filter is higher flowing, why block the flow from 5 sides? might as well remove the airhorn from the stock box, drop in a K&N filter, remove the rubber flap, and be done with it....
it's your money though, just trying to point out what i see as a really bad design, no matter how much $$ it costs.

I've decided to just stick with my AirAid for the time being, because im just going to go either Ram or Cowl Induction next summer. So, i've decided to go with SS Grill Inserts :)
