Message: Ok i got a good question for everyone here..
I have a 1997 Dodge Dakota 4X4 3.9L 5-speed..
I wanted to do some mods on it. So about 1 year ago i put a 5.9L V8 in it with a 5-speed and a centerforce clutch (stage 2).. Then every summer i get the itch so i had to do more.. So i put a cam (mopar R/T cam) Intake (M-1) Mopar Roller Rockers (1.6). Larger Injectors (24lbs).. Headers.
And variuos other mods.. Here is my problem.. IT'S NOT ANY FASTER.. NONE WHAT SO EVER.. I have i think 2 problems.. 1 i got the motor out of a dodge ram not a dakota.. I am think that maybe the timing is off.. Also i have a 1998 dodge dakota 5.2l computer pushing it.. Since i can't run a 5.9 computer in it because all the 5.9 computer are for 4 O2's and not 2 which is what i have.. Anyone have a suggestions??
THanks
Glenn

Message: why wouldnt it handle a 360? it holds up fine with supercharged 318's.
Glen, the ram 360 and dakota 360 are the same engine. was it hard to hook the 360 to a 5 speed?
im almost positive you can have mike leach flash the pcm to run the 360.
i also hear the mopar cam sucks, and the 1.6 is the stock rocker, just with a roller tip. you should have felt something with the M1 though.

Message: The combination of the Mopar R/T cam which sucks, and the larger injectors which you do not need are probably slowing you down. Go back to the factory 19# injectors unless you can find some other way to control them. Also, have your fuel sync checked.

Message: Easy fix... Have your truck DRB by a good dealership--- your base timing/EFI timing is crutial. On top of that-- you can run a 5.9L computer (get a KAT box and sim out the O2 sensors your don't have!!! The computer will be happy.)
If anything the 5.2 computer is choking out the potential of the 5.9L... Injector pulse width, etc. is different (fatter) for a 5.9L!
www.krcperformance.com can help ya with these items!

Message: Sam, he has a manual tranny. The 5.9 computer would freak out without the sensors from the auto tranny working correctly.

Message: Mark Kuzia and Sam South both run 5.9Ls with NV3500s... Using '93 Ram 5.9L computer I believe-- 5 speed.
Should be able to match this up with a correct 5.9L OR... have the 5.2L computer completely redone.

Message: How would the '93 ram computer work with a '97 dak? Not saying it won't , but wouldn't there be some tuning issues?? That's putting a OBDI computer on a OBDII vehicle. I would think it woudl be better to have Leach custom flash his 5.2 computer.

Message: Glenn,
The PCM that you need is Mopar PN 56046348.
This one is for the '98 RAM 2500 5.9L - Manual Tranny. From what I have been told by Dodge, since the stroke is longer on the 5.9L than on the 5.2L, the timing in the computer is different to account for it. Check the junk yards first for one, I picked one up for $150 and Dodge wants $580 for it new.

Message: Wow, Thanks for the help..
Here are the 2 things that i am trying and i will get back and let everyone know what is going on..
1) I called the Mike Leach Company.. He said that there are NO difference (from the computer stand point) Between the 5.2 and the 5.9. SOO I am going to get him to repgroam my computer.. But that lead me to a different problem.. The computer i had.. 5604332AE wasn't able to be reprogramed.. SOO My buddy has a 1999 dodge dakota 5.2 5-speed (can't remeber the computer number) But it works in my truck fine.. Other than it thrown the o/d light. But no check engine lights.. So i got that computer from a junk yard and it going out this week to get repgroamed.. Also problem #2 ( i think) I have a 4X4 and that 1 7/8 exhanust that comes from my headers aren't hepling.. SO i am getting true duals put on it 2 1/2 in.
It a couple of the posts they said that the R/T cam sucks.. Which i am sure it does BUT I GOT EMMISSIONS to pass.. That is the only cam (from what i heard) that will pass. Plus it got to give me SOME hp espically with the roller rockers..
Also i have people running the 24# injectors on a stock motor (no clue why) and they don't have problems.. So i think these are the best way out..
Anyone what an information on the coversion from the a 3.9 to a 5.9 drop me a line i will be more than happy to help..
Thanks for everyones help.
