Subject: squeeking noise when I go over bumps IP: Logged
Message: Can anyone help me out with this. Everytime I hit a bump in the road lately, I hear this high pitch squeek. At first I thought it was just the right front, but now I think it may be both sides (hard to tell when you're driving). Any thoughts or ideas would help. I'm no mechanic, and I'm overseas...I'd like to have a relatively good idea what the problem might be before I take it in to a mechanic over here (Germany). Thanks.

Message: Ours just had that problem. the U (Bolt)joints was breaking. It also just caught on fire. Where in Germany are you? We lived in Hanau near Frankfurt. WE just bought new u joints and had someone else put them on. If you have family members in the states you might be able to get them to buy them and send them to you. Then find a mechanic to put them on. Are you military? WE found several mechanics in our area who were good to military and didn't charge a lot and took the VAT form to save on taxes. Our truck only had about 38,000 miles on it when that happened and we heard the U (Bolts) Joint breaking was a common problem with the Dakotas and Durangos. Replacing both cost us $170 parts and labor. But that was in the USA. IF you are miltary isn't there a few bigger dealers on some of the bigger Posts and Bases that might have a service center? I thought there was. Can't remember.
Good luck!

Message: Most likely it is the front anti-sway bar. Try lubing the bushings with something and see if it goes away.

Message: Hate to say it but in my opinion it is the BALL JOINTS...you'll need to replace the control arms (A Arms) after you find out which BALL JOINT or BALL JOINTS have failed...unfortunately Chrysler blundered on this design...I was in Giessen Germany on my Overseas duty....

Message: It may very well be the ball joints: just try lubing the sway bar first. This is much easier than replacing the ball joints. Just eliminate the sway bar before getting into something else.

Message: Its the swaybar bushings in the front. My QC was doing it after I drove through a lake. Had them greased and good as new.
