Well, driving home this afternoon got rear-ended by a Silverado 1500 ... but hey my truck was already 3 months old. :-(

I have been in two other accidents before, so here is the interesting part. He was towing a trailer with about a 1500 pound load. I was stopped at a light, and he was coming up behind me (obviously) ... he lost traction and locked his brakes up and came into me. I calmly turned the radio down and proceeded to swear some unpleasantries ... and drove over to the curb-side to have a look.

I get out and he pulls up in front of my truck, I go to the back of the truck and what do I find ... my bumper now has a dimple and has been "set in" about .1". He runs over and asks if I am okay, to which I reply ... "I am fine, how is that damn Chevy that hit me?". We go and check his out, and the chrome on the bumper was dinged but pretty much no damage either. I turn to him and say, "Ok, well cya later then".

Okay, the point. I was all set in my mind that I was going to get a rollpan and lower my Dak, but had I already done that I would be looking at some major damage right now. So, I am seriously reconsidering those mods now and thought I would share in my misfortune.

Damn, should have called the police, got a report and filed a claim. A replacement bumper is over $600. I was rear ended in Detroit. INsurance company paid for new bumper, but bought a used one for $200. I pocketed over $400 to use for other mods. Might sounds kinda shady, but you were in an accident and should have filed a claim. Are you goin to just leave your bumper dented?? I couldn't stand to drive my truck for very long knowing the bumper is dented. As far as the roll pan, I feel exactly the same way. I was considering a roll pan until I was rear ended. Afterwards I saw a Dak that had a roll pan that was rearended. The bed was pushed up into the cab creasing the cab. Was over $10K claim for his truck. Mine was under $800. Had I had a rollpan it woudl have been much worse.

I never really thought of it as an accident in the usual sense. I was more in shock of the lack of damage more than anything else. It was raining hard out and I was already late to pickup my kids, so I just let him off the hook.

Yeah, the dented bumper doesn't bother me since my Dak is a Sport ... the bumper is black. I am a little worried about premature rusting, so if anyone has any suggestions for that I am all ears .. ummm eyes.

I, uh..., backed into a tree one evening after a social gathering and everything looked fine. The bumper had moved towards the body just a hair and wasn't noticeable. This can be readjusted fairly easily, I think, but I can't really see a difference. After a few months, the point where I had made the impact, flaked off and had rust underneath (about the size of a quarter). I bought touch up primer, paint, and clearcoat from a local auto parts place and used a flat-tipped screwdriver to grind down the rusted area back to shiny metal. Had to take a little more paint with it around the edges to make sure all of the rust was off. Wiped it clean. Applied a coat of primer. Let it dry for 30 minutes. Applied a coat of black touch up paint and let it dry. Then applied a generous and thick coat of clear coat sealant the area and a bit of the surrounding area. Has been perfect ever since. Did this to several spots on my jeep and it has been over two years with no flaking and no degredation of those repaired spots yet. Doesn't make it look as good as if you paid a detailer $100-200 to fix it, but it really doesn't look bad and you can't really notice it anyway. And by the way, I'm super picky about my beautiful, black vehicles. ; )

Hope this helps!
