Subject: Brake Problems? IP: Logged
Message: 2000 Dodge Quad 4X4 5.9L with 50,000km (31,250 miles?) on it and I 'm starting to notice what feels like a mild pulse from braking.
I heard OEM rotors have a tendency to warp. I torque my wheels at 90 ft. lbs and I hardly do any heavy braking.
What do you think is the problem? I don't want to get raped by the Dodge Dealer Service Centre.
Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Message: No not yet.
I check the pads everytime I rotate the tires.
When I put on my R/T rims and summer tires 2 weeks ago they seem to be ok?
You think this is causing the problem, worn pads?

Message: Much more likely it's the rotors.

Message: Just don't go to the dealer, get yourself some Powerslot rotors and some quality pads. True, the oem rotors are not so good, but you have likely gotten the useful life out of those.

Message: I also had a 2000 QC warped rotors at 7k, 12k, 15k and then at 24k. finally got some after market rotors and no problems since.
Cheap base material in rotors most likely cause of problems, dealer told me it is a known problem.

Message: As everyone else has stated, the OEM rotors are susceptible to glazing & warping. After battling two different Dodge dealers, I opted to go with an aftermarket setup...PowerSlot rotors & Raybestos QS pads.
The way I see it, you have two options. You can take it to the dealer & see if they will work with you; however, I think it is more likely that they will say that this is normal behavior. Or, you can go with aftermarket rotors & pads.

Message: Keep in mind that PowerSlots aren't the only option out there. There are many after-market companies that make a variety of replacement rotors for our rigs.
...it's just that the PowerSlots are hugely popular among the Durango & Dakota crowds.
