Message: I have two questions. I have a roaring, and noise that sounds like the belt squeaking. Belt dressing doesn't help. I changed the tensioner pulley thinking it was the bearing, and that didn't help. The roaring noise almost sounds like a front wheel bearing, but they are ok. There is play in the fan clutch. Should there be any? Is that where my noise is coming from?
My truck is a '96 2wd, 3.9 with air. Can I change the fan clutch without draining the radiator, and removing the shroud? It looks like I can. Has anyone done this? Thanks for any info.

Message: Hey, if your belt has play in it, where the pulley moves, your waterpump pulley bearing is shot. And that roaring, depending on when you hear it, could be your fan clutch is seized up inside. More details would help also. (Driving, hot,cold...etc)

Message: The belt tensioner is ok. There is no play in the waterpump bearings, just in the fan clutch. The sound like a belt, and it is only slight, is worse when the engine is warmed up, and is only heard when sitting in gear, ie. drive, reverse, not in park. The roaring noise is only there while driving the truck.
The fan clutch will turn, it is not seized up.

Message: hmmm. Well, is your fan bolts tight to the clutch itself? If it isn't that can make noise. But if it is tight, then it's gotta be one of the pulleys I think. Good luck!

Message: my '94 dakota actually "roars" on low speed acceleration. i replaced the fan clutch and it's much WORSE now. i'm certain that the problem is either/or the fan and fan clutch.
is there an aftermarket unit available or a mopar unit that would quite things down a bit.
my dakota is a 4X4 v-8; and aside from the fan noise is a verrry nice piece of equipment.
