Message: I'm looking into buying a newer Dak, probably an R/T or 4.7 5-speed, What is the difference in insurance between the two? Is the R/T a lot more because of the 360?

Message: Your rates are going to depend more on your age, driving record and where you live, for the most part, than the rig. Yeah, some vehicles have a worse track record for accidents, high repair costs and theft than others, but your best bet is shop, shop, shop. I've had Nationwide for a bunch of years and when I've compaired, it was the best for price and coverage. My age, driving record and # of years with them help too. Try contacting 2 or more insurance brokers-it is in their best interest to find you the best price (so you'll buy from them). Good luck,...D

Message: The insurance was one of the deciding factors for me in buying my Dakota. It was cheaper to have the 2002 5spd 2WD 4.7L SLT+ than to have a 96 Prelude or Camaro (and yes, the Dakota is faster than the 'lude, go figure!) I am 18 BTW, so this tells you how much my insurance blows anyway. If you get it as a 2WD it will be much cheaper too. For some reason my company did not ask what type of engine in it, but rather, if it was an SLT or sport, lol.

Message: From what my insurance company told me any V8 Dakota cost the same in insurance, 4.7 , 5.2 , 5.9 - they're all classed the same by them.

Message: Well yeah, I know that, but all engines were the same price -- I checked before I bought it. The only thing that could hurt me was 4WD..
15-16K Lude or Camaro = large chunk of insurance.
