Subject: CB interfering with engine IP: Logged
Message: Hello. I have an 87 Dakota with the 3.9L carbureted engine. I have dual whips mounted at the front of each fender. Every time that I talk into the mic, I can feel and hear the engine surge or bogg down, until I stop talking. I think its because the signals from the antenaes are interfering with the spark plug wires. How can I prevent this from happening? Thanks in advance.
Nick

Message: 87Dakota,
I have a ham radio in my Ford Ranger (soon to be moved into my '01 Dak QC). When the truck is idleing and I key the mic, the idle drops a little as well as the head lights dim a little. This is a 100 watt radio that draws 22 amps. I also connected the power for this radio directly to the battery posts.
If you are running an amplifier with this radio, that may be part of your problem (current draw on the battery and alternator).

You running a "heater" on the CB? (That's really odd since they don't put out more than 4watts...thats not enough to "freak out" the engine.)

Message: I am not running any sort of amps in my truck. I have the powerwire connected to the radio(am,fm) power wire, and the ground to the same ground for the radio. What is a heater? By the way I have 26" antenas and an old RCA 23 channel CB. Any other thoughts?

Message:
"Heater" is the slang term for a Linear Amplifier (not legal on CB's but a whole lotta fun anyway).
Check all of your ground connections. That's the #1 annoyance with CB's.
