Subject: Suspension Noise? IP: Logged
Message: Ever since I got my 01 CC 4x4 3.9 I have had some noise coming from the front suspension. Whenever I go over a large bump or go down into a dip at anything over about 20 mph, my front suspension makes a terrible noise, sounds like the thing is going to fall apart. I took it to the dealer and got the typical, "couldn't repeat problem" line. Is this something I should live with, or should I take the service writer for a ride and replicate the problem with him in there? Thanks.

Message: What kind of a noise is it making? squeeking, clicking, metal-on-metal grating, clicks, pops, grunts, farts?!? 8^)
The most common problem is a squeeking noise. This is caused by the front sway bar bushings, and the fact that they are "ungreasable" because Uncle Dodge did not put grease zerks on them. Most dealers will replace them under warranty (as they've done with mine TWICE).

Message: The noise is a creaking type noise. It is very noticeable as I said when going over large bumps or dips in the road. I guess I will have to go over to the dealer and let the writer have a ride with me and replicate it for him. I hope it isn't the bushings, if that was it, it means the things were shot when i bought the truck new from the lot. Thanks and any other suggestions would be helpful!!!

Message: i had the same thing in my 2002 cc with only
250 miles on it.. the dealer fixed it by greasing
the stops. it they were dry so when the wheel
was turned all the way it would grind/sqeak
loud. its fixed now.

Message: I say it's the sway bar, too. I have had that problem on numerous occasions. The dealer removed the sway bar and put anti-seize on the bushings riding surface. It fixes the problem until the compound wears/ washes off.

Message: I may get out the WD-40 this weekend and spray a little around there. Mine only does the noise when I hit big dips in the road, but I am positive it is not bottoming out. It has to be the front suspension somewhere. I will give it a try and see what works.

Message: I'm with the others saying that it is the sway bar bushings. Mine have been replaced by the dealer twice now...guess the dealer would rather replace them than try and figure out a way to lube them.
After an off-road trip last year, they acted up something fierce...might have somthing to do with all the mud & water crossings (you think?!?!). I ended up unbolting the sway bar, pulling the bushings off & greasing them. For the inner bushings, I actually greased the sway bar & then ran the bushing through the grease a few times & wiped off the excess. For the outer bushings, I just greased the inside of the bushing, slid them back on, and wiped off the excess. This quieted them down for the better part of 3 months.
I've done the WD40 treatment to them as well, but that only lasted a month or so.
Hope that helps.

Message: Thanks for the tips Halo and everyone else. If the problem persists, I will take it to the dealer and take the service writer for a ride with me so he doesn't give me this b.s. "can't reproduce the noise" like last time. Thanks again!
