Subject: Oil Filter Relocation IP: Logged
Message: Does any body know if they make a oil filter relocation kit for 3.9 V6? I use fram filter #PH16
I have seen this kit in JC Witney it calls for a Purolator filter #Per-1A. Any body have a cross reference on this?

Message: Thanks for the info. No I haven't had any cold start rattles from this filter, its the only one I have been using on it sence I got the truck a year ago. I use Castrol 5W-30 oil in it.

Message: Do a search on oil filter reviews. From what I've read fram is one of the worst filters on the market.

Message: As far as the oil filter relocation kit goes, the ones for the V-8 will also fit the V-6. The v-6 is just an 8 minus 2 cylinders.

Message: Another possibly stupid question, if you move the filter let's say up on the wheel well and put it so the opening is facing down will it drain out completely while the truck is off? Or when you take it off for changes will it drain all over everything. Like I said this may be stupid but I only know one person with a relocation kit and he's way older and very wierd.

Message: I had a blazer one time and it had the filter on the wheel well it kept oil in it after it set.I had to use a little pan to catch the oil just like the stock location. It was a lot easier to work with.

Message: Does anyone know of a good place to put a filter if relocated? it would probably be best to mount it in a totally hanging position so that the oil wouldn't have a chance to leak anywhere.

Message: Most people put them on the firewall -- not sure about our trucks though. As long as you are reloacting it, you might as well get an oil cooler too.

Message: AMSOIL makes one with a full bypass system. The only problem is is does cost and it takes up some room. If you run 100% synth oil its actully reccomended to run one. It pays for itself in the fact that you don't have to perform oil changes but once a year or less.

Message: Bob
Wix carries the parts you need under part #
24730 for adaptor to engine and
24762 for filter remote base
the original oil filter for our daks has a front end check valve to prevent oil drain back that is different from other filters, but on a remote setup it probaly is useless, this kit will use standard dak filter and ph8a or equivlant filter
I use amsoil kit myself and it work great

Message: Do not listen to anything about changing oil only once a year etc, it still needs to be changed every 3,000/3months as usual. Less than that depending on the conditions you've been driving in (towing, racing, severe hear or cold, and so on).
Do not skimp on the oil. It's such a simple and easy thing to do...

Message: Ok, what's the deal on this. I have been told that 3K/3 months is a ploy by the oil companies to make more money. I'd been told that 5K was a better place. I don't tow or anything, only race occasionaly but I do have a heavy foot and 123K on the odo. I'm currently using Mobil 1 with a K&N oil filter.

Message: Well, I'll tell you what, why not just have it tested! You can see what type of metal deposits are in it, the acidity and all kinds of neat stuff! What better way to know when to change the oil and know what kind of wear is going on in your engine than to have it tested, right?

Message: That is correct about having the oil tested. AMSOIL does this wtih their test kits to ensure that your oil is still in top condition. You do still have to change the By-pass filter and the regular filter at normal intervals to ensure that the oil is being cleaned properly. You also have to add makeup oil at that time to make up the difference of what came out in the filters.

Message: Think of it as an investment...
If you oil is good, you can go longer and not need to change your oil as often (although I still would).
Or...
You need to change the oil more often and are now doing less wear to your engine and a that will give you more life to your engine and run better.
Either way, wouldn't hurt to do it.
