Subject: 4 Cylinder Perf. Upgrades? IP: Logged
Message: Hey all,
I have a '97 Dakota sport 4 cylinder with 54K miles, its a 5 speed.
I plan to do the following mods to it:
Edelbrock air intake (EDL-1208)
180 thermostat
Autolite 3923 plugs
muffler (possibly a cat back system)
Any thoughts on this?
I would like some more HP obviously, not looking for a high hp truck just want some more power.
Wondering what kind of exhaust options I have- I dont want something really loud, but a nice tone would be desired. When i go on long trips I dont want to go deaf I guess is what im saying.
If I do these mods any idea the HP gain? Thanks everyone.

Message: hey I got the same thing 2.5L r/c pulled all the air box plumbing and stuff off of the throttle body.theres only one pcv hose from the intake to the vlv. cover, pull the hose and the 90' elbow off the vlv. cover then pull out the grommet.go to your local parts store and get a Mr.G 2" crankcase breather and shove it in the hole, it fits perfect.Got an open cone typ air filter at the same place for $20,straps right on with a hose clamp.Ditched the stock coil and got an accel super coil,Brass contact cap and rotor and 8mm wires.Get the Accel universal fit strait boot kit for V8 and make yur own that way you'l have an extra set.All this crap cost me was less than $100.oh yea, and get some good platinum tip plugs cause the autolites roast pretty quick with the added volts.---Good luck hope some of this helps your not gonna get a roadster outa this motor but the increased power should satisfy your need for speed for a little while.
PS. think about getting the cat back to but don't mess with the o2, make sure you leave the behind the cat sensor IN.

Message: I've heard that the 4.0 liter Jeep throttle body is a direct bolt-on and a good way to get a power boost. Cheap too, like $75

Message: sell it and get a 4.7 or 5.2!!! just save up bro!couldnt be more than 3k or so to upgrade if you get a good deal selling ur truck and get a cheap 4.7 5.2 same year, maybe 96 or so.. but I would sacrifice a year for the power if it still had good mileage imho.
