Message: So I take my 2001 4.7L SLT (20,000 miles) to the dealer to get the transmission serviced today. The service advisor calls in the afternoon and asks if I have had any problems at all with my tranny. I told him that I haven't and that it has run great since I bought it. He told me that while they were bringing in to do the service, the tranny suddenly became stuck in neutral and would not move. What the fu*k is this?!!! So now they have to either rebuild it or get a new one, depending on what corporate says. I can't remember the codes that it spit out, ( I will get them later) but something about a loss of pressure. I can't believe that I can drive the truck for 14 months without a problem, take it to the dealer and the tranny goes out. What were they doing, slamming it in and out of gear for fun? I just hope that this thing runs perfectly when I get it back, or I will be making frequent trips to the dealer. Oh well, at least it's covered by warranty and I am so glad that I got the extended warranty. I bet no one has had an experience like this before. Any one have any suggestions?

Message: For WIW a similuar situation on a 01 Durango with a swapout, a new tranny has a 12mo 12,000mi warranty, a rebuild has 36mo 36,000mi
Had a choice of which I wanted, went rebuild for the warranty, so far no problems
Don't make sense but DC policy

Message: Well, I went to the dealer and talked to the tech. He said they did the tranny service and as they were conducting the test drive, the tranny blew. He said that the tranny wasn't pulling up the fluid and therefore wounldn't shift. He said that they have never seen this happen before and that DC would make the call whether to put in a new tranny or have the dealer rip apart the old one, find out what went wrong and rebuild. I told them that in all fairness to me, I deserve a new tranny. We shall see what happens. This sucks!!! If DC says to rebuild, what should I do? Can I call them directly? Help!! No matter what happens, my 6 year/100000 mile warranty covers the new/rebuilt tranny, right?

I think I would look around for an better dealer service center...
I've really been lucky... having good techs for the very few times we've taken the Dakota or Durango in.

Message: If it's something small they can fix, that's probably what they'll do, but if it needs a rebuild, "usually" DC would give you a new tranny so they could study what went wrong with yours.
I could be wrong though. See if you can get CW's attention with this, I believe he is a DC tech

Message: I finally got my truck back after 4 trips and over a month later of trying to rebuild the tranny, its finally fixed. Its like falling in love with my truck all over again.
As far as new or rebuild it totally depends on the time the person rebuilding it takes. On my test drive the tech who also drives a dak said he had a new tranny put in his and said it still wasnt right.
That being said if anything else goes wrong I dont think I wouldnt want to give them another attempt at rebuilding it...New is New.

Message: They screwed up plain and simple. I had a pinion seal leaking on my old cougar . Had the dealership replace the seal. Picked up the car drove it about 10 miles and it started making alot of noise. Took it back to the dealership and found out they forgot to put the gear lube in it.
Now this sort of thing happens more than you would think. And I would just bet that the dealership screwed your tranny.
