got a 96 3.9L club cab sport model.
I keep my car in good working order. Took my car
to the polution test lane for the first time and
was took my co emisions were to high. As far as
I can tell there is no problem althougt the operator had many problems shifting the 5 speed trans. I have the factory service manual but it is
vague on how to trouble shoot the problem.
need help.

Did the tester tell you what was causing the high carbon monoxide reading? Normally, they will tell you what is causing it b/c they want your money to fix it also.

Could be a bad catalytic converter?

catalytic converters are garenteed for 170.000 km in canada about 100000 miles in u.s.a.
the dealer changed mine at 86.000 km even if my exhaust was modified.my dack is a 96 club cab 4x4 v6 5speed told me that 10 year time limit or 170,000 km on converter
