Message: My '96 Dakota with the 3.9, and overdrive automatic is acting up. Around town when I am not accelerating very quickly, the transmission shifts into overdrive just fine at 46 mph. If I am accelerating faster, like merging onto the interstate, the transmission will shift into overdrive momentarily, then it acts like it slips, then BANGS into overdrive. Anyone know what's causing this?

Message: I would go the cheap route first. Have the system put on an evacuator machine, they completely drain all the fluid in the entire system and run cleaner and seal conditioner through it before adding new fluid. My last truck was doing the same sh#t and the dealer wanted to do a rebuild, 1500.00 did the trans clean and condition first and never had any more problems with it. about 100.00. Just a suggestion from my expierence.
