Subject: System Computer, is this correct? IP: Logged
Message: I have an 87 Dakota.
is this how i reset the computer?
Remove Neg Battery Cable, turn ignition to Start for 15-20 seconds, release, then re-install Negative battery cable.
Is that correct?

Message: CW,
R U sure? Because In my Owner's Manual it says: It ( meaning the CHECK EGR Light) will remain on until the system is serviced and reset...
I know the Dak doesn't have a "real" computer per se as it doesn't even have Fuel injection. I'm not discounting what you said. I know the 87 Has a Spark Control Module because i changed it.
But the owners manual said it had to be reset.. So i guess i'll just try the "turn to start" thing. if all else fails i'll go to the rip-off dealer (not just dodge.. all dealers are riff-offs). UGH why can't I just get a new Dak? lol

Message: Thats not really a computer it is more of a timer comes on every 100,000 or something like that. If you want ot get kinda technical then the spark controller is a computer as well. Just no need to redet it that is all. It isn't a "learning" computer.

Message: Yeah, I see your point. The spark control isn't a learning "computer"... So removing the battery cable woudln't do anything to it, but there has to be a way to reset that light. I'm hoping that when i change the EGR Components it will just go off, but according to the manual, it has to be reset somehow.
Anyone know?
