Subject: Order/Build--Too Long?? IP: Logged
Message: I contacted DC Customer Service today to find out whether my order was scheduled yet. I had placed the order at the dealership on 2/21/01, leaving nearly 6 weeks before the rebates expire. They informed that the truck was scheduled for the first week of April, with a couple days build time and about 4 days for shipping time. Obviously, this is nearly 2 weeks outside of the rebate period, and almost 8 weeks from order date. That is unreasonable compared to the 3-5 weeks I've been hearing from other people. What gives? Am I the only one with a slow order? I may not buy now, without the $2000 rebate.

Message: Well, I ordered mine on Feb 14. Estimated ship date was today (Mar 6). I called today to check status and they told me it was being painted today and they expect it to ship within the next 2 days. Said it could take 4-5 days to make it to the dealership (which is in Michigan, not far from the factory). So, yeah, it looks like it's taking a bit longer to get yours together!!
All's I can say is keep after 'em & ... GOOD LUCK!!

Message: I would check with a lawyer or maybe even the BBB. They may give you some surprising info as to weather or not you are intitled to the rebate, I would think that because you factory order the truck, the dealer is out of the picture except to fill in the final paper work and therefore the rebate would be given due to the intent to buy and not the final possession date. Just my two cents, but I would look into it.

Message: HondaVFR--I don't get it!The day you ordered your truck, would be the day you would be locked in on any rebate's,is that not true?It is good that there is a long waite, means they are selling a lot of Dakotas.

Message: No, you are not locked in on the day of order. I have DC Customer Service confirming that. Also, two of four dealers here have said the same thing--rebates are reviewed at the time of delivery, not time of order. However, another dealer, and several of you here, have said they would guarantee it, in order to keep the sale. The fourth of the 4 I talked to said that it could be done, involved some paper shuffling, and generally was not the honest way to do it. I think it is crap though--tell me what I have to do, but how can I commit to buy something if the price may vary by $2000??

Message: I ordered a Quad Cab on 2/24 with an estimated 8 week delivery date. The dealer told me right off the bat that if I ordered the truck I would get the $2000 back regardless of when it comes in. He also told me that if the rebate get better then I could have that but I would at least get the $2K. The invoice for the order which is signed by both of us has the $2000 taken off so as far as I'm concerned no way are they going to screw me out of it.

Message: 01DAKCHIC...be glad you DID have to wait this long for your truck. Now you're getting the $2000 instead of only $1000. Good things come to those who wait!
