Subject: chroming rims? IP: Logged
Message: Just curious, is it possible to chrome rims that are already painted? I don't want to get the R/T rims like everone else and no one makes a rim that isn't all crapped out ugly. I wanted to get my 16X8 rims chromed if possible. Just curious.

Message: I had the stock aluminium wheels for my 1993 Cadillac Allante chromed 3 or 4 years ago. Yes they can be chromed but it's expensive. Check around in your town for someone who does it.

Message: The Cadillac has about 20,000 miles since chroming with no problems. The shop that did mine is now closed or I would check on doing my truck. It takes allot of work to do chroming. Chrome plating is hardly a matter of dipping an article into a tank, it is a long involved process that often starts with tedious polishing and buffing, then cleaning and acid dipping, zincating, and copper plating. This may be followed by buffing of the copper, cleaning and acid dipping again, and plating in two or three different types of nickel plating solution, all before the chrome plating is done. Thats why it's expensive but you will have one of a kind wheels.

Message: I've seen the 15x8's chromed for sale on e-bay as well. I think chroming your wheels costs about $100 each generally speaking.
