Subject: Cat question IP: Logged
Message: I have a 98 v6 slt and my cat is bad but i dont have the $ to get a new one right now, will it hurt my engin if i just take it off untill i can get the other one, and will the engin light come on or not, thanks

Message: It will come on but no harm will be done. Fuel milage will probably go down. If you get a cat box from speed tweaks then you could cut it out permanently.

Message: So it wont hurt my proformance or life of the engin, i have 53k on it right now, the light will go on beacuse of the o2 sensor, if i have a cat box, will the light still come on?

Message: Emissions equiptment like a cat carries a longer warranty than your regular warranty. You may still be covered for this. I had a cracked exhaust pipe on a Toyota replaced this way simply because it was upstream from the cat - I think it was close to 70,000 miles !

Message: I have a 98 and mine went bad at 40K. The warranty for mine was good for something like 8 years, 80K. Dealer replaced it for free.

Message: I guess the muffler shop that cut my cat off must've cut out the o2 sensor too cuz there is no light coming on.

Message: actually if they cut your O2 sensor the check engine lite would come on and you might even go into "limp home" mode which is stuck in 2nd gear if an auto tranny and limited to a low rpm.
