I am looking for a 92-94 dakota qaud cab automatic trans,4x4
and need to pull a 2500lb boat over the mountains...Does the 92-94 dakota v8 have substantially higher tow capacity than the v6...
The dealers have no idea what the tow ratings are.
The v6 has nice mpgs..
I want to know fuel mileage vs tow capacity..v6 or v8?

I don't know most of the tow ratings for the 92-94 Dakotas. I used to have a 94 reg cab v6 2WD 5 speed with the 3.21 gears and it was rated to tow 3400 pounds. Towed a friend's Camaro from central california to El Paso TX with no problems.
But if you're looking for a 4X4 club cab, go with the v8. The Dak you described with the v6 would tow 2500 pounds with no problems, but the v8 would tow it better. In my old 2WD Dakota, I routinely got 16 mpg driving back and forth to work and 19-20 on the highway. With my current Dakota I get 13-14 going back and forth to work (all city with only one 1/4 mile stretch that allows lockup in OD), and 17 hwy (unless I'm going easy on it, then I hit 18). Given all that, you'd probably be looking at 14-15 city with a 92-94 v6 4X4 auto and 13-14 city with the v8. And maybe 18-19 v6 hwy, compared to 17-18 or so V8 hwy. So you're not going to save a whole bunch of money on gas going with the v6. The v6 is a good engine, but you're going to be working it harder more often which is why the mpg would be relatively poor...likely no different than the v8 when towing in the mountains.
So with the difference in mileage likely to be only around 2-3 mpg in normal driving, it comes down to what you want. Do you want extra power while towing or 2-3 more mpg when not towing?
