Message: The rotors on my 2001 (18,000 miles) appear to be warped. When I apply the brakes I can feel the pads grip and release. Has anyone had the dealer resurface the rotors for free? I know that they will wrap again even if resurfacing them, but I don't have the money to buy new rotors. If anyone has had any luck with the dealer helping them out with this issue, please let me know how to get my dealer to do the same. 18,000 miles seems pretty quick for rotors to go bad, unless they're crap! Thanks

Message: They are crap. I have a '00 and my pads began grooving my rotors sometime ago. They are still safe though...just annoying. I already have the new breaks on stand by for when I get fed up.

Message: I don't know what you guys do to your brakes but mine had 30,000 when I traded it in and it had the original pads still had at least 50% left. The rotors did warp but buying new ones usualy warp faster than a turned rotor. The turned rotor has already taken a set from being heated and cooled so many times. IMHO.

Message: 2000 QC 4.7 auto. Rotors warped at 7000 miles. Dealer cut them. Warped again at 11500 miles. Another cut at dealer. Warped again at 13,500. Dealer said not covered this time only to 12K on recuts. Sounds like BS to me, anyways, got aftermarket rotors and new pads from Father-In-Law at wholesale. Truck at 70,000 miles with no problems. Ordered 2002 QC 4.7 manual, due to come in any day now but from diffrent dealer, hope rotors are better this time.

Message: MajorWoods,
What brand were the aftermarket rotors? Looks like I'll need to get some and get ready to put them on probably sometime soon.

Message: Just pulled mine and had them turned ($12.00) at the local auto parts. Have 26000 miles on the Dak. Front pads are like new and rear shoes are about half. Took care of the warp.

Message: I have a five speed with almost 60,000 on it with the original front brake pads and rotors. They dont were at all on my application. I still have about 5/8 left on the pads and the rotors are just starting to get a wobble. time to get them turned. It all depends on how hard you are on your brakes!!!! I even pull my 3000 lb. boat around all summer too!!! Go figure

Message: And I pull a 5000lbs hloday trailer. My advice is to make sure they hand torque the wheels. That can make all the difference in the world.

Message: Has anyone had any major problems IE. calipers sticking, etc. from leaving their warped rotors on for too long? I'm going to put the powerslots on just gotta wait for the paycheck to come in. I'm having the dealer re-do the alignment they never got right and tranny serviced right now, just hoping its not the calipers sticking causeing the truck to pull to the right.
BTW What is the proper torque for the stock wheels?

Message: I've been looking into going with the Powerslots as well since my rotors are not long for this earth, the previous owner changed the pads without machining the rotors and now they squeal something fierce, anyways, these powerslots are sweet but man are they expensive, are they supposed to last any longer than regular rotors? how much bang am i gunna get for my $200?

Message: Check out the posts under DEALER RECALL for rotors. Some good discussions there. KEVSTER makes some good arguments for using PERFORMANCE FRICTION pads, and there are other references to using Raybestos or Bendix aftermarket rotors. Since most of my driving is highway, I can get by with the mild warpping of my rotors. But I plan to change to aftermarket rotors and PERFORMANCE FRICTION brake pads this summer. I'll do the work myself, save the labor costs and spend the difference on higher quality parts. Dodge basically just took the "minimal spec" route when they chose their brake components for the Daks.
