Subject: Daks retain value! IP: Logged
Message: I bought a 1999 5.2 SLT two months ago for $13000 in SC. I just sold it for $14800. I am now probably going to buy a 2000 SLT with a 4.7. Maybe I can sell that in a few months for a couple thousand-dollar profit and move to a 2001. LOL! (I test drove a 2001 Ford Ranger Edge and hated it. I was bounced all around that little cab. Once you enjoy the smooth ride of a Dakota, you just can’t go to a substandard truck.)

Message: Haha, cool.
Did you sell them in different places? I know that a friend of mine has a 95' Accord LX where here in Kalispell, MT it would sell for 11 and even 12 (this was a while ago, so it may have gone down some) but in Denver -- where he just moved -- others sell for no more than 9000 and a local dealership wouldn't give more than 6000 for it! Vehicles are SOO much cheaper in cities.

Message: xplikt- I don't know about Kalispell, but the two hour drive to Missoula would not yeid any better number then Denver for that 95 Accord. Even if it were perfect shape, average miles, and the top v-6 model he'd be lucky to get $7500 on a trade in. And the Honda dealer would start at asking $11,000 but take $9000 on their never ending $2000 sale they seem to have. If people could make $4000 just by buying a car and driving it a day away and then selling it don't you think there would be a bunch of folks doing it? Sounds like standard car dealer hocus-pocus in playing with numbers to make you think you got the best deal ever.

Message: Wasn't my car Hersbird and the guy bought it for a couple grand too much to begin with, take a look in our paper some time. All the vehicles are considerably more, specially Honda/Imports right now. I know of a couple people who have taken a bus somewhere and then drivin 1000+ miles back, gave it a slight "tune-up" and they sell it for 1.5 times as much and it DOES sell. Those same people bought some Dell computers on the internet for 599 dollars, 100 dollar walmart monitor and then turned around and sold it for 1200 dollars a week later...WTF? I know of one sad excuse for a human being that actually gets by on doing this..

Message: There is independant dealer here that goes to most of the auctions in Spokane, Seattle, and Denver and will buy any car for you and only charge $500 plus $100-$400 to get it back. Auction prices are scary low compared to what even a private party tries to get, and most actions will somewhat guarentee the deal. If not just buy something still under factory warranty and your good. Lots of people from all over are travelling to Missoula to shop now, Butte, Helena, Kalispell, even people from Spokane come here for big ticket TV's and jewerly to avoid the sales tax. I really like how Missoula has grown into a good retail hub, and those NCAA champion Grizzlies are pretty fun to follow as well.

Message: No offence, but I personally do not like Missoula at all. My choices for college are Missoula or Bozeman and since I'm going for CS I'm going to Bozeman. Although most of the credits from FVCC up here in Kalispell transfer to Missoula, not ALL the ones transfer to Bozeman. It's alright to shop at, but I can't stand most of the people I have met there (although they were mostly all people that moved down there from Kalispell, hrmm.).
We'll see though, I still have not made my mind up where I am going. I have some meetings with advisors tomorrow at FVCC and I am going to have to really decide.
BTW, the day after thanksgiving (Black Friday) I drove down to Missoula at 4:00AM with a friend in a WRX to go to Best Buy to get in on all the deals!
