Subject: Removing shift nob

Message:
I was wondering if anyone knew how to remove the shift nob from a 2001 Dakota 3.9L Sport. I attempted to turn it but it wouldn't move so I left it. I heard that there might be a possible screw at the base of the shifter to remove the outer black shell of the stick, which lets you unscrew the nob. Could someone explain to me what I need to do?

Take a small screwdriver and pry up the black plastic cap (with the shift pattern). There is a small lip that holds it in place, but it will come out. Once that's out, you'll see the 14mm nut. Remove this nut and the shifter knob will come right off.
