Subject: Better Shocks ?? IP: Logged
Message: OK ... here's another newbie question. I'd like to go with a set of better performing shocks for my 1999 Club Cab 4x4 Sport. While I don't want to get my brains rattled out with too stiff a shock, I could certainly stand a bit more stiffness (and better control) over the stock shocks. I am currently running Edlebrock IAS shocks on my 2000 Jeep TJ and I love those (but they are pretty expensive). Anyway, what do you guys recommend for an aftermarket shock to provide some better control and less body roll?
TIA,
Don

Message: I have the Edelbrocks on my 98 5.2, but a lot of folks here seem to like the Ranchos too.

Message: Bilisteins!!!!!!!!!!!! The best replacement shocks for OEM shocks on a truck!!!!!!! They have the best warranty in the industry! I doubt that you will be unhappy with them. You would not belive how many people come back to me after putting another brand of shock on their Z71 and want the part number for the bilsteins. GM quite useing the bilsteins on the Z71 due to cost. The bilsteins are very durable.

Message: I have bilsteins on mine and I like them. Over surface irregularities and small bumps they allow the suspension to move (giving a good ride), but over large bumps they damp body motion much better than the stock ones. They lessened (but didn't completely eliminate) the highway-speed float over large bumps, which was my main issue with the stock shocks. Overall good shocks, if a little pricey. However if I ever lift my truck and go with larger tires I'll probably swap them out for some sort of an adjustable shock so I can tune the front and rear independently.
I've never tried any other aftermarket shocks, so I have no idea how the bilsteins compare with the edelbrocks or the ranchos.
