Message: Have access to a 1985 Oldmobile Delta 88 with auto tranny and 5.0 motor. How many cubic inches is this engine and is it worth building up to drop into something down the road?

Message: If it's a 305 then you can get some power out if it but it is hardly worth the effort. very poor heads on the 305. If it is a 307 I think they are just a smaller version of the Olds 350 rocket engine. Could be wrong on that though. Still most 5.0L 305 or 307 were aimed at fuel economy and emisions with very little thought towards performance. Much like the 318 of the 70's for Chrysler.

Message: Oh yeah the 307 will have a very wide intake manifold. It looks a lot bigger than a 307.

Message: It is a 307 in that car. I had an 84 Dealta 88 and that thing was a beast and it had 198,000 miles on it and it was still running good. Its is just like Olds old rocket 350 with just a smaller bore. The 307 is a workhorse engine that will never die but its only draw back on that engine is the carb. Gm used the crap Rodjester Quadrajet that is junk and if you are keeping the car that is the frist mod that i would do is get rid of that crap carb and put an edelbrock replacement carb. and a K&N to go with it. That will open up some hidden HP that the engine is capble of producing. Also i belive that Gm does have some proformance parts for the old Olds engines. These engines are very strong but are alittle on the weak end but a different carb and some other mods and she will scream. Good Luck.

Message: It's probably the 307, the sad part is that you have one made past 1984. They changed the heads that year so a lot of performance stuff won't fit. You can get headers and carbs, rockers, and a few other parts, but cams and cranks are rare. I owned an 87 Cutlass Supreme with the 307 and sold it to buy a Sebring. Check the tranny also, hopefully you don't have the weak freak'n tranny that I had, it was the 250 (200 maybe) turbo. I wish I had the 350 turbo. It does bolt up, and some did have it, like my mom's 81 Delta 88.
