Subject: Take Tailgate Off? IP: Logged
Message: I'm about to make a drive from Austin, TX to Atlanta, Georgia to Nashville,,,, and then back. Does it make a difference in MPG to take the tailgate off? Or just lower it? Or leave it up?
Reply quick I'm taking off soon!

Message: mmm wouldn't hurt to leave it down i guess as long as you have nothing that will fall out in the bed
you might notice a difference in that long of a trip.

Message: From all I've read the ol' tailgate thing doesn't apply to the new Daks. Aerodynamics and all.
Leave it on for the trip out ... take it off for the trip back. Let us know what you find! hehehe

Message: The dakota tailgates are real easy to steal, you don't even need any tools. If I was going to Atlanta, I'd leave the tailgate in the garage!!!

Message: I took mine off for a 400 mile drive from Coos Bay, Oregon to Seattle, Washington. My normal mileage was 22MPG highway and it went to 23.5MPG on that trip without the tailgate.
