Message: i have a chance to trade my 91 5.2 extended cab for a 94 or 95 3.9 extended cab.which truck would be faster or easily made faster for less?

Message: I would personally go with the V8, for a couple of reasons.
First off, a V8 will last longer than any V6 could ever hope to live out to. In an older used vehicle the V8 will be able to take more punishment.
Secondly there are far more tweaks and racing parts made for V8's than there are for V6's. It is easy to find a exhaust system for almost any V8 Configuration you would like. If you want to keep your options open this is an excellent reason to do so.
And finally, You can always make a vehicle lighter, and in a older pickup there are plenty of options. You can always remove the tailgate and replace it with a web or net to lighten it up along with removing door or seat materials. Why spend extra cash for extra horse when you can just rip out the stuff you don't need. A friend of mine stripped his base dakota down to bare bones for track purposes, and saved some serious cash.
