I have a 2001 quad cab lately i have been hearing a sqeaky noise coming from behind the dash. has any one had this problem. how did you fix it.

you might want to start by pulling the front part of your dash off, and wiggle any parts that might be lose, hanging, or look to see if there are any lose screws making the noise. if there is just fix it from there.

I used to have a VW Jetta with a creaky door panel and instrument cluster. Once I isolated the noise I just picked up some insulating foam tape, removed the creaky parts, put the foam tape on the back, then re-installed the parts. It took a few tries to get the foam tape in just the right spots, but it got rid of the noise.

I too have a 2001 Quad Cab with a squeaky dash. It sounds like it is coming from in or behind the dash on the drivers side. Haven't gotten around to getting it looked at or fixed. I figure I'll take it into dealer sometime before warranty expires. I wonder if the stereo installation is the culprit in my case. Maybe I can get the dealer to fix anyways?

Sounds like the QC has a problem. I have a 2001 with 3500 miles and my dash squeeks to. Front left corner! Can find it either, but hoping the dealer will.

Dont think that its just the QC. I herd the same thing coming from my CC just this morning. Sounds like its coming from the drivers side somewhere. I havnt gotten around to looking for anything yet but someone make sure to post if they find anything.

Randy- you described the location of my truck's 'squeak' perfectly. I notice it squeaks more on corners & rough roads. It wouldn't be so bad, but the truck is so smooth & quiet, that the squeak is really noticeable.

I have the same squeak I think. It comes from the dash on the driver's side, near the A-pillar I think. I only seems to do it when I am turning to the right. It is a high pitched "bird chirping" kind of a sound. I had the dealer look at it when I had it in for some other service. Big surprise, they "could not duplicate the condition."

I had my 01 quad cab in the dealer several times for a squeak in the dash (sounded like a bird chirping)on the drivers side. The chirp was more cosistent when the body was flexing on a wash board type road. It very seldom made the sound on a sharp bump. It also came or went when I cornered. They had the dash apart several times and drove it around with most of the dash out and it still squeaked. The dealer stayed with it and they finally found it in the steering column and had to change out the steering column. It has not squeaked since. Its been about three months now.

does anybody remember if the bird chirping noise occurs when it is raining out?
mine doesn't but the rest of the time it does. the noise especially occurs when I turn the steering wheel to the right. going to have it looked at in the upcoming weeks.
it is driving me crazy.

I have heard the squeak comes from where the steering column goes through the fire wall. A while back someone fixed the squeak by spraying WD-40 on this penetration. A reply to this post was try some dry silicone spray. I have a 01 QC and occasionally I hear this chirping type annoying, teeth grinding, abnoxious noise. I plan on soaking the pi$$ out of this area with silicone spray ASAP. Good Luck to all! I'm going to go look for the previuos post.

Mine happens when you are going 20mph or less over washboard or rough gravel, I fiddled with the door lock (pushing the lock back and forward, and pushing on it) and it made it squeak less. But it might be my imagination making it sound like it squeaked less :)

Mine made a rattling noise from the area of the A pillar this morning... Thought something had come loose under the hood. Then I noticed some ponderosa pine needles under the hood laying in the plastic ventialtion intake tray that were vibrating in the wind... I was surprised I could hear them so clearly in the cab. Got out and removed them and a maple leaf they were laying on and the noise went away. Could your hood be squeaking on the rubber weather stripping on the ventilation tray and you're just hearing it inside the cab from the A-pillar area? Look into that, also.

Hey guys, I hate that noise also but If anyone has ever taken off the dash or the plastic cover around the dash then you would seen that there should be red or some velt with a sticky back to it. If this is not positioned right or has been pulled off then the plastic rubbing together will cause this noise. I don't know where you can get that from but I would bet on that being the culprit to our dismay. I still have not tried this b/c of lack of time, but I plan on it soon.

Amazing to see this thread! I have the exact same problem on my 2001 4x4 QC 4.7/auto (squeek from drivers side dash, mostly when the steering wheel is turned to the right). I have spent 3 months trying to cure this, after two trips to the worthless 'cannot duplicate the problem' dealer. I also believe at this point that the squeek is coming from the rubber bushing where the steering column penetrates the firewall. Hitting the area with silcone lube spray seems to solve the problem completely, but only for a few days. Seems that I can't get the lube where it really needs to be (and unfortunately it is very difficult to get to the engine side of the bushing because the power brake booster is in the way). I will keep at it and hope I can get the lube where it needs to be...

yea i tried the silicone trick tonight and it was
a pain.
I think i'll try again when I have more time and more sunlight.
I'm leaning more on this being the source of the noise b/c when it was raining today the noise was absent. But once the rain stopped and the truck dried the noise reappeared. If it was inside the dash then the chirp would occur constantly.
I hope that i can reach the bushing and really let her have it.

Well if the silicone works as a temporary fix do you think maybe some of that spray lithium grease might work better? If it is a pain to get to there must be something that lasts longer than WD40. I cant wait to try to get to mine because if it cures it even for a day I'll be ecstatic to figure out where the noise is coming from. It's been driving me crazy for the past few months.

I am the one who originally posted this concern about the squeak. The easiest way to get to the rubber bushing from the engine compartment side is to follow the steering linkage to the firewall from the drivers side wheel well and just aim. I used a can of wd-40 with the straw. just aim and shoot some of the wd-40 will run off and fall on to the frame and to the floor. so don't think you have a leak of some kind. So far it has been a month and no squeak.

I remembered your orignal post and looked for it but couldn't find it. I'm glad you showed your face on this post. Just wanted to say thanks for the cure for a hard to find/tricky problem. I know in the original post, someone noted that a silicone spray would last longer than WD-40, did you ever try it? There is a product out that is a penetrating oil with added silicone. Its called Zep45. Thanks again for the tip.

Well, as for me I finally managed to get a good shot at the steering column bushing with some WD-40 from the engine side of the firewall (used the suggestion in one post to remove the front wheel and crawl in there. Still not easy access, but at least possible to really nail the area with lube - you're not really able to do this properly from above or below because of the power brake booster being in the way). The squeak problem was pretty bad, but after the WD-40 application the sound is completely gone! I had been looking to cure this problem for several months, so thanks to all who contributed to this thread...

I've tried getting at it from underneath and i don't think i'm getting all of the bushing.
Also, did you turn the steering wheel to the right? I was wondering if this might aid in the penetration.

just want 2 know if anybody has a whistle sound when they have there blower fan speed set @ the first level. mine only makes this sound on the low fan setting,increaseing the speed makes it disappear. thanks for any replies....

Once you remove the wheel and crawl in there (for safety use a good jack stand, not just a jack) you can see the entire bushing and properly aim the lubricant spray (you will need a trouble light to see what you are doing). With a straw extension you can dircet the spray where you want it and make sure that it really soaks in. You can't do this from above or below and applying lubricant blindly results in only a temporary (or no) fix, or at least that was my result. Like I said it's a tight fit but once you nail it the problem should be gone for good (or at least a long while). I can't believe what a psychological improvement it has made not having to listen to that damn squeak any more!! Like having a new truck again...

With Dodge products, squeaks are a "no cost option". Look for it on your option list.
Also, I have the advantage on you guys. After 55 years, I can't hear the squeaks! Rumble type noises still irritate me, tho.

duct somewhere? Take a good look around in your vents with a light. Hope its not in the bypass valve. If you can't find it, I think I could help if you shipped myself and your truck to Honolulu for a couple of months. I'd like to bring my truck for a reference also, if you could swing it.
