Subject: 2002 front caliper anti-rattle springs IP: Logged
Message: On my wifes 2002 Dakota 4.7L quad cab 4x4, I recently noticed that one of the front brake caliper springs (anti-rattle spring) was missing. The caliper slider bolts were sticky anyway, so I bought a caliper hardware kit and put on the new sliders, rubbers, and anti-rattle springs. When I was pulling out of the driveway, I heard one of the springs pop off. Do you think this is because I used aftermarket parts? I seem to remember that the original anti-rattle springs were much harder to remove and install than the springs that came with the aftermarket hardware kit.
The aftermarket springs (at least the one that was still on there) were also rubbing on the center 'hub' part of the brake disk.
Should I try Mopar parts? Can you buy just the springs from Mopar or are they part of a kit?
I'm almost thinking of just leaving the springs off. I don't think they're a safety part, and I never hear any rattling so maybe I don't even need them.
Any opinions?
