Subject: Short in headlight wiring? IP: Logged
Message: Hello, I don't know a whole lot about cars, so bare with me.
I was involved in a somewhat minor fender bender. I replaced the bumper and it looks fine now.
But the other day my headlight started smoking! I pulled the headlight off and the bulb had exploded, but not before melting the plastic all around it. The 30amp relay/fuse inside the engine compartment blew, so I replaced it. I've been trying to track down where the wiring might be exposed or touching the frame, but can't see anywhere where it might be doing this...??
Not sure if this helps, but sometimes when I turn the light on (only for a few seconds before it starts to smoke!) it won't turn on til I pick the bulb assembly up...but the wiring looks fine...
Not sure where to go from here...any help would be greatly appreciated!
Edit: Just checked, and it looks like the fuse/relay that blew was #16 the 30A for the radiator fan...

Message: Okay, looks like it wasn't a short. Turns out I had touched the bulb (and it was the kind you're not supposed to touch)causing it to get super hot and smoke/explode.
